Body
WHEREAS, on March 5, 2023, the Jackson County community lost a leader, a mentor, and a friend with the passing of former Kansas City Councilman Michael M. (“Mike”) Burke; and,
WHEREAS, during his many years of dedicated public service, Mike was a true champion for economic development in Kansas City and Jackson County, lending his expertise and passion to a multitude of committees and organizations, including the Port Authority, the Economic Development Corporation, and the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority, among others; and,
WHEREAS, Mike was a visionary leader who consistently demonstrated his commitment to innovation and progress, as evidenced by his advocacy for cutting-edge technologies, such as electric cars and recharging lanes, which would transform the way we travel and live in our community; and,
WHEREAS, Mike’s enduring legacy will also be felt in the development of the new Loews Kansas City Hotel, a project he tirelessly championed for years that is poised to become a vital hub for commerce and tourism in our region; and,
WHEREAS, Mike was a model of patience, perseverance, and dedication, and his contributions to our community will be remembered and celebrated for years to come; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby honors the life and memory of former 1st District Councilman Mike Burke, and expresses deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the County Legislature that the Legislature hereby recognizes and honors Mike Burke’s extraordinary legacy of public service, commitment to the community, and contributions to making the community a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
