A RESOLUTION authorizing the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department to make application for matching funds to the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for the purpose of initial planning for construction of a education center at Fort Osage National Historic Landmark.

INTRODUCED BY Fred Arbanas, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Legislature is cognizant of the County's important role in the history of the United States of America; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department is the steward of Fort Osage National Historic Landmark; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Legislature understands the significant role famed explorer William Clark had in the initial selection of Fort Osage's location during the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806, and his leadership in establishing the fort in 1808; and,

 

WHEREAS, Fort Osage will be a nationally significant historic, educational, and visitor site during the commemoration of the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition; therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department is hereby authorized to initiate a grant application to the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, under the auspices of its FY 2001 grant-in-aid program; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director be authorized to execute all documents relevant to the grant application process; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, if a grant is awarded to the County the Legislature will, in compliance with legislative procedures, initiate a resolution of acceptance; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if a grant is awarded, the County will comply with standards set forth within the grant agreement, including but not limited to, maintenance of project for public use, compliance with the provision of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and compliance with the existing standards fo the American with Disabilities Act and applicable state standards for bidding of materials and services.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
