Title

A RESOLUTION remembering the legacy of Becky Lynn Davis.

Intro

RESOLUTION NO. 22294, June 1, 2026

INTRODUCED BY Manuel Abarca IV, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, growing up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Becky was the daughter of Richard Ott, an educator, and Mary Ann, an exceptional mother and homemaker; and,

WHEREAS, she attended Northwest High School before moving with her family to the Kansas City area; and,

WHEREAS, Becky became a full-time teacher in the Grandview School District in 1977, where she taught junior high English until her retirement in 2007; and,

WHEREAS, an educator to her core, she was the original grammar queen: sharp, quick-witted, and often the smartest person in the room; and,

WHEREAS, she was a tough but beloved teacher, the kind students remembered long after leaving her classroom; and,

WHEREAS, if you could make Mrs. Davis laugh, you knew you had won her over, and,

WHEREAS, Becky had a gift for finding beauty and joy in life’s little things, she was a professional shopper in every sense of the word, somehow always uncovering the best bargains on the nicest things, and her wardrobe reflected it effortlessly; and,

WHEREAS, Becky will be remembered in countless ways: through perfectly timed sarcasm, the most thoughtful gifts, shelves of read books, twinkling Christmas nutcrackers, and the unmistakable scent of Aromatics Elixir lingering gently in a room long after she’d left it; and,

WHEREAS, Becky loved reading current fiction, traveling, and creating a home where the holidays felt a little more magical; and,

WHEREAS, after retiring at the young age of 50, she embraced her favorite role as a grandma; and,

WHEREAS, she leaves behind her husband of nearly 50 years, Michael Davis and their children, Jeffrey Davis and Mary King, her son-in-law Joseph; and grandson Michael Wilson, sister Joni Ott and her husband Tom, as well as her sweetest dog, Rosie; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson County Legislature honors Becky Lynn Davis and the legacy that she leaves behind.
