A RESOLUTION congratulating Cliff Mohn on his 32 years with the Independence Public Schools and wishing him well upon his retirement.

RESOLUTION 13740, June 25, 2001

 

INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan, County Legislator

 

Body

WHEREAS, on June 29, 2001, Dr. Cliff Mohn will retire as Deputy Superintendent of Independence Public Schools after thirty-two years of dedicated service; and,

 

WHEREAS, he served the Independence Public Schools in several challenging positions throughout his career, including Director of Secondary Education (1985-89), Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs (1989-92), Associate Superintendent for Education Programs (1992-99), and Deputy Superintendent (1999-01); and,

 

WHEREAS, he was associate principal of William Chrisman High School from 1984-85, assistant principal from 1978-84, and taught math and coached football, basketball and track from1969-78; and,

 

WHEREAS, he attended  Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, and received his B.A. in Mathematics in 1952, and Central Missouri State University where he received his Masters of Science in Educational Administration in 1976; and,

 

WHEREAS, he later attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City and received a Educational Specialist Certificate in Educational Administration in 1980 and a Ph. D.  in Educational Administration in 1991; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Mohn is actively involved in the Independence community, serving as director of the Independence Chamber of Commerce, commissioner for the Independence Housing Authority, director of the Teachers Credit Union, and a member of the Rotary Club; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, and actively involved with the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the American Association of School Administrators; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Mohn chaired the district's MSIP process from 1997-99, which resulted in the district's accreditation with distinction; and,

 

WHEREAS, his other noteworthy accomplishments include: chairman of the district's A+ schools program (1997-99) and chairman of the Middle School Committee during the district transition to Middle Schools in September 1999; and,

 

WHEREAS, he received NASE certification as a curriculum auditor (1988), was a recipient of the Quill and Scroll Award (1994-95), and was selected by the Greater Kansas City School Counselor Association as Counselor Advocate of the Year (1990); and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Mohn is a member of the United Methodist Church and his special interests include exercising, golf, reading, and traveling, which he enjoys in his spare time; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Cliff Mohn upon his retirement after 32 years with the Independence public schools and wishes him happiness and success in his future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
