Body
WHEREAS, Matthew Cushman is a lifelong Jackson County resident and lives in the City of Raytown; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Cushman has been a paramedic for over 15 years for the City of Raytown's Department of Emergency Medical Services and has been Director of the Department for the past 7 years; and,
WHEREAS, Heart to Heart International is an international aid organization that seeks volunteers from across the globe providing medical assistance to victims of disaster; and,
WHEREAS, over twenty-five (25) generous donors raised funds to enable Mr. Cushman to travel to Haiti as a volunteer with Heart to Heart International on a 10 day mission where he treated or assisted in the treatment of nearly three thousand earthquake victims in Port Au Prince, Leogane, and Grassier; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Cushman also volunteered his time and expertise on two different occasions in New Orleans during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Cushman's humanitarian efforts he was recognized as the 2009 Missouri EMS Association Administrator of the Year and is dedicated to his family including wife, Starla, and children, Madelon and Tyson; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes Matthew Cushman for his selfless contributions to global disaster victims as well as the citizens of Jackson County. .

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
