A RESOLUTION congratulating the Lawrence Heman family upon having been named the Jackson County Farm Family for 1999 by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Council.

Body
WHEREAS, each year the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Council selects a family that has made exceptional contributions to farming; and,
WHEREAS, the Jackson County Farm Family chosen for 1999 is the Lawrence and Adeline Heman family from Buckner, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the Hemans were chosen for this prestigious award because of their involvement in and contributions to farming; and,
WHEREAS, their family includes four children, Linda, Brenda, Ronald, and Karla and several grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, currently, Lawrence and Adeline work their farm with son Ronald, his wife Anita, and their two sons, Clark and Travis; and,
WHEREAS, the Hemans have farmed their land for many years, with family origins stemming back to 1899; and,
WHEREAS, their children were actively involved in the 4-H as they grew up, and Lawrence served on the Jackson County Soil and Water Conservation District Board; and,
WHEREAS, the Hemans grow corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay, and have approximately 130 cows and calves; and,
WHEREAS, they also conserve topsoil by terracing the land and using the no-till method of farming; and,
WHEREAS, the Heman family is active in the Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Levasy; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lawrence and Adeline Heman family upon being chosen as the Jackson County Farm Family for 1999 by the University of Missouri Outreach and Extension Council and for their numerous contributions to farming.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
