A RESOLUTION acknowledging Margarito (Mickey) Rodriguez as an honorable member of the greatest generation who selflessly fought to protect and defend our country during World War II.

Body
WHEREAS, Margarito (Mickey) was born February 2, 1922, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Santigo and Sevra Rodriguez; and,
WHEREAS, Margarito married Juanita Hernandez on October 6, 1942, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage prior to Juanita's death at the age of 74 in the year 2000; and
WHEREAS, together Margarito and Juanita had 9 children, Belinda, Mona, Margarete, Anna, Michael, John Joe, Robert, Ray, and Paul, twenty two grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and,
WHEREAS, Margarito came to Kansas City, MO, in 1954 with his family after the devastating flood in Armourdale, Kansas City, Kansas, and worked 43 years at Swift Packing House as a butcher until his retirement in 1985; and,
WHEREAS, in a honorable act of patriotism during World War II under the command of General Douglas MacArthur, PFC Rodriguez entered the Pacific Theater January 28, 1944 fighting the Japanese in the Northern Solomons and Luson, Philippines; and,
WHEREAS, Margarito received the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, Philippine Liberation ribbon, World War II Victory medal and the Purple Heart symbolizing the valiant efforts and sacrifice freeing the world with unconditional surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945;and
WHEREAS, Margarito had to his credit loyal and unquestioned service performing duties in extreme and difficult conditions with an unfailing commitment and dedication to the preservation of the American way of life despite hardships and the increased possibility of loss of life faced each day by our gallant soldiers fighting for freedom, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature extends sincere appreciation for the patriotism displayed by Margarito Rodriguez and others known now as the greatest generation as they fought to protect and defend our country during World War II.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
