A RESOLUTION expressing the opposition of the Legislature to the proposed rezoning requested by the LaFarge Mining Company of a 167-acre tract in the City of Sugar Creek, MO from residential to industrial classification to facilitate a 167-acre mining project in the City of Sugar Creek, Missouri.

Body

WHEREAS, the Sugar Creek aldermen recently approved an ordinance annexing unincorporated land into the boundaries of the City of Sugar Creek; and,

 

WHEREAS, subsequently, the LaFarge Mining Company submitted a request to the Sugar Creek Planning Commission to change the land use of the annexed tract from residential to industrial to facilitate a 167-acre mining project; and,

 

WHEREAS, mining operations carry potential hazards ranging from dust emissions to blasting which may cause structural stress on buildings and homes as well as health-related issues, affecting residents of nearby unincorporated Jackson County; and, 

 

WHEREAS, the proposed mining operations could have an adverse effect on the health and safety of Jackson County residents; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature opposes the proposed rezoning of land owned by LaFarge Mining Company for the purpose of facilitating its mining operations and urges the Sugar Creek Planning Commission and Board of Aldermen to vote against the rezoning.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
