Body
WHEREAS, Rose Brooks Center is a family violence agency serving women and children in Jackson County who are in danger of being killed or injured by their abusers; and,
WHEREAS, in June 2009, Rose Brooks Center partnered with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department to develop a program aimed at preventing domestic violence homicides called the Lethality Assessment Program (LAP); and,
WHEREAS, LAP helps law enforcement personnel determine a victim's risk level and connects her to the emergency hotline for immediate assistance; and,
WHEREAS, since initiating the program, Rose Brooks Center has experienced a 301 percent increase in demand for its services, resulting in more than 4,000 women and children being turned away due to limited availability of bed space at its facility; and,
WHEREAS, on August 17, 2011, Rose Brooks Center will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new Hope Shelter Wing, which is part of its emergency expansion plan that will increase the capacity and raise funds to sustain and expand Rose Brooks Center's vital programs; and,
WHEREAS, this addition will provide needed bed space, a children's play area, a health clinic, therapy space, and a pet shelter to meet the rapidly growing need in our community; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Rose Brooks Center on its groundbreaking celebration of the new Hope Shelter Wing and encourages community support for Rose Brooks Center's efforts to provide assistance for victims of family violence.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
