Body
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 4262, dated October 25, 2010, the Legislature did authorize the acceptance of the Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant, awarded by the U. S. Department of Justice; and,
 
WHEREAS, by Resolution 17876, dated April 16, 2012, the Legislature did authorize an extension to the Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant, through April 30, 2013; and,
 
WHEREAS, this grant is used to identify, review, and prioritize unsolved sex crime cases in the County that have the potential to be solved through DNA technology, while working with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Sex Crime's Cold Case Unit and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Crime Laboratory; and,
 
WHEREAS, the County and the U.S. Department of Justice now desire to extend the grant to continue to provide funding for salaries and benefits for employees through September 30, 2013, at no additional cost to the County; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Solving Cold Cases with DNA Grant, awarded by the U. S. Department of Justice, be and hereby is extended until September 30, 2013; and,
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Prosecuting Attorney and all other County officials be and hereby are authorized to execute any and all documents necessary to the extension.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
