Body
WHEREAS, Quint Doan, a recent graduate of Lee's Summit North High School, was chosen out of 15,000 finalists to receive a 2013 National Merit Scholarship in the amount of $2,500; and,
WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarship winners are chosen from the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies; and,
WHEREAS, Quint plans to attend the Honors College at the University of Arizona in Tucson, majoring in history; and
WHEREAS, throughout high school, Quint was in the top one percent of students and was the recipient of numerous honors including Chemistry and Science Student of the Year, Rotary Top 10 Student, the State of Missouri George Washington Carver Award, and Senior Class Salutatorian; and,
WHEREAS, Quint participated in football, baseball, basketball, Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai martial arts, and is a founding member of Lee's Summit North Rugby Club; and,
WHEREAS, Quint served on medical mission trips to El Salvador in 2009 and Honduras in 2010 where he shadowed physicians serving in the triage department; and,
WHEREAS, Quint has an FAA private pilot license for single engine land aircraft and is currently pursuing an additional instrument rating; and,
WHEREAS, upon graduation, Quint plans to pursue a career as a high school teacher and coach; and,
WHEREAS, Quint's parents Kirk and Laura Doan, are justifiably proud of their son; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Quint Doan upon receiving a 2013 National Merit Scholarship, and extends best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
