Body
WHEREAS, the greater Kansas City Metropolitan area has been designated a Transitional Grant Area (TGA) in accordance with the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act; and,
WHEREAS, the City of the Kansas City, Missouri's Health Department is the designated agency to receive federal funding for the purpose of delivering or enhancing HIV-related services in Jackson County and other Missouri and Kansas counties included in the Kansas City TGA; and,
WHEREAS, according to Kansas City Health Department statistics, Jackson County has sixty-six percent of the reported AIDS cases in the Kansas City TGA as of December 31, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, the CARE Act requires that intergovernmental agreements be established between the chief elected officials of political subdivisions which have not less than ten percent (10%) of the reported AIDS cases in the TGA; and,
WHEREAS, the attached Intergovernmental Agreement sets forth the agreement and understanding of Jackson County as a member of the Kansas City TGA; and,
WHEREAS, execution of this Intergovernmental Agreement is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute the attached Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
