Body
WHEREAS, the United States, the State of Missouri, and Jackson County as integral parts thereof, must keep apace with the ever advancing and changing industrial, technological, and professional services that are essential in maintaining world leadership in the betterment of life of all people; and,
WHEREAS, the challenges presented by growing scientific and technological advances, accompanied by growing demands upon limited natural resources, require a concomitant growth in the versatility and competence of our counties' skilled professionals and craft workers; and,
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training of the United States Department of Labor seeks to help establish apprenticeship initiatives for businesses, educational institutions, and governments that create high-quality programs which will insure career development opportunities for employees; and,
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training is committee to equal opportunities for all qualified individuals to acquire needed skills without regard to race, creed, sex, age, ethnic origin, or physical disability, thus increasing the employment opportunities, earning ability, and economic security of the individual worker; and,
WHEREAS, the development of this County's skilled professionals and craft workers is vitally important to the continued economic growth of our county, our state, and our nation; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the month of October 2000 be and hereby is declared "Registered National Apprenticeship Month 2000" in Jackson County, Missouri; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature does hereby urge County businesses that are not now training apprentices to take appropriate steps to assure development of skilled workers in the community, and urge those which are now training apprentices to strengthen and expand their programs.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
