Body
WHEREAS, former Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Albert A. Riederer will celebrate his retirement from the practice of law with a benefit event to support "The Albert Fund" for the Bishop Sullivan Center on November 8, 2012, at the Uptown Theater; and,
 
WHEREAS, during Albert's service as Prosecuting Attorney from 1980 to 1992, he gained recognition for establishing innovative programs in rape prosecution and child abuse and for the United States' first anti-drug program, funded from a dedicated sales tax, the COMBAT program; and,
 
WHEREAS, Albert earned his juris doctor from New York University School of Law in 1971, where he was a Root-Tilden Scholar, a designation for students with a demonstrated commitment to public service, exceptional leadership ability, and a history of academic achievement, and he was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts; and,
 
WHEREAS, Albert also earned a Master of Laws degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1978 and a history degree from St. Louis University, where he graduated magna cum laude and he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society, and he studied abroad in Rome, Italy, with Loyola University, where he became fluent in Italian; and,
 
WHEREAS, Albert was an attorney in private practice for many years and served as a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, from 1997 to 1999; and,
 
WHEREAS, Albert is active in community service, volunteering for the Parish Council of Visitation Catholic Church, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 84, Holy Family Catholic Worker House, and Second Chance Foundation of the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission, and serving as a Kansas City board member of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, board member for Concerned Care, Inc., and board member with Genesis School; and,
 
WHEREAS, Albert's friends and colleagues honor his commitment to public service and dedication to the common good; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes the life and extraordinary personal and professional achievements of Albert A. Riederer, and extends best wishes to him in his retirement.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
