Body
WHEREAS, until the adoption of Ordinance 2191 in 1993, the Legislature had a longstanding tradition of conducting its Independence meetings in the evening, so as to better allow the County s citizens who work during daytime hours to participate in the meetings; and.
WHEREAS, Rule Twelve of the Legislature's own rules of procedure still reflects evening hours for the Legislature's Independence meetings; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of the Cou ty that the tradition of evening meetings in Independence be reestablished; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri as follows:
Section A. Enacting Clause. Section 210., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as Section 210., to read as follows:
210. Legislature Meetings.
The following apply to legislative meetings.
210.1 Kansas City Meetings.
The County Legislature shall hold a regular weekly meeting on the first, third
and fifth Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse in
Kansas City.
210.2 Independence Meetings.
On the second and fourth Monday of each month, the County Legislature
shall hold its regularly scheduled meeting at [12:00 noon] 6:00 p.m. at the
County Courthouse in Independence, Missouri, except that, during the months
of May through [[August]] October, the Legislature shall hold its regularly
scheduled Independence meetings at 1:00 p.m.
210.3 Meetings on Holidays.
All meetings of the Jackson County Legislature scheduled on legally
prescribed holidays, as determined by the County Legislature, shall be held on
the subsequent Tuesday of the same week.
210.4 Change of Meeting Time or Place.
The County Legislature may, by roll call vote on motion and second, fix a
different time or public place or both time and public place for a subsequent
regular weekly meeting, but all meetings shall be within Jackson County and
be open to the public.
210.5 Minimum Number of Meetings.
The County Legislature may by resolution designate Mondays on which no
regular meeting is to be held, but there shall be no fewer than forty-eight
regular weekly meetings each year.
Attorney Effective Date: This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
