A RESOLUTION congratulating Amanda Sweeney upon her recent selection for the 2001 Missouri Scholars 100.

RESOLUTION 13701, May 21, 2001

Body

                                                                                                                              

WHEREAS, Amanda Sweeney, a senior at Lee's Summit North High School, was recently nominated by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals as one of Missouri's top 100 academic students in the graduating class of 2001; and,

WHEREAS, nominated students ranked in the top 10 percent of their class with upper-level courses in mathematics, english, science, and foreign language, and met the criteria of an "Academic Decathlon," which included 10 "events" designed to assure academic strength; and,

 

WHEREAS, nominees needed a minimum grade point average of 3.57 and a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,300; and,

 

WHEREAS, excellent attendance and involvement with school and community activities were also considered in the criteria for nominations; and,

                                                                                                                                                                                                                  

WHEREAS, Amanda is currently ranked fourth in her senior class, she scored 1390 on the S.A.T., 34 on the ACT, maintains a 4.46 grade point average, has excellent attendance, and is an exemplary community citizen; and,

 

WHEREAS, she is the vice-president of Students Against Drunk Drivers, vice-president of the French Honor Society and a member of "Bronco Smart," a drug-free club; and

 

WHEREAS, Amanda has volunteered at Lee's Summit Hospital for 4 ½  years and is actively involved with her church choir and youth group; and,

 

WHEREAS, she taught a six-week french course to 5th and 6th graders at Underwood Elementary through a French Honor Society program and volunteered at Hope House shelter through the National Honor Society; and,

 

WHEREAS, her scholastic achievements include National Honor Society Member and International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate; and,

 

WHEREAS, Amanda's future plans are to attend Erskine College in South Carolina, where she will major in biology and "go pre-med"; and,

 

WHEREAS, she is the daughter of John and Marla Sweeney of Lee's Summit and has one brother who is a sophomore at Lee's Summit North; and,

 

WHEREAS, Amanda deserves the highest of praise for her many accomplishments in school and community service; therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Amanda Sweeney upon being named among the Missouri Scholars 100, and wishes her success in her future endeavors.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
