Body
WHEREAS, mental health is an essential component of overall well-being and impacts every aspect of an individual's life, including relationships, work productivity, and overall quality of life; and,
WHEREAS, mental health conditions affect a significant portion of the population, with millions of people worldwide experiencing mental health challenges each year; and,
WHEREAS, mental health awareness plays a crucial role in promoting understanding, compassion, and support for individuals facing mental health conditions, including breaking down stigmas associated with mental illness and fostering a more inclusive and empathetic community; and,
WHEREAS, the month of May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to raise public consciousness about mental health, increase awareness of available resources, and promote the importance of early intervention and treatment; and,
WHEREAS, mental health organizations, healthcare providers, community leaders, and advocacy groups work tirelessly throughout the year to educate the public, reduce stigma, and provide vital support and services to individuals and families affected by mental health conditions; and,
WHEREAS, by acknowledging Mental Health Awareness Month, the Legislature affirms its commitment to prioritizing mental health, supporting those in need, and promoting a society that values the well-being of all its members; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Jackson County and requests the downtown Jackson County Courthouse be lit with green from May 1 through May 8, 2024, as a symbol of our support and continual awareness of mental health issues; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature urges all citizens to join in recognizing the importance of mental health, fostering understanding and empathy, and advocating for accessible, high-quality mental healthcare services for all.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
