A RESOLUTION congratulating John M. Overman upon receiving a Gold Certificate for maintaining a license with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy for 50 years.

Body

WHEREAS, John M. Overman of Independence, Missouri, has served citizens of Jackson County for 50 years as a licensed pharmacist; and,

 

WHEREAS, in recognition of his accomplishments, the Missouri Board of Pharmacy honored John with a Gold Certificate, representing 50 years of voluntary compliance with pharmacy and drug laws; and,

 

WHEREAS, each Gold Certificate is signed by Pharmacy Board members, the executive director and Governor Bob Holden, and is accompanied with a letter of congratulations from the Board; and,

 

WHEREAS, during his 50 years as a registered pharmacist, John has evolved with his profession, from a technician-like function to the modern pharmacist role; and,

 

WHEREAS, in the beginning years of his practice, John's work consisted primarily of receiving prescription orders and dispensing medications; and,

 

WHEREAS, he has been a pharmacy owner, a pharmaceutical sales representative, and a staff pharmacist; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is currently in practice on a part-time basis with 50-Plus Pharmacy, where his duties consist of overseeing the dispensing functions performed by technicians and tutoring his fellow pharmacists on practice management issues; and,

 

WHEREAS he also educates patients about their medications and oversees special projects to improve pharmacy practice at 50-Plus Pharmacy; and,

 

WHEREAS, John is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy, a member of the Missouri Pharmacy Association, and was active in the Kansas City Pharmacy Association; and,

 

WHEREAS, he has devoted a great deal of effort to the work of Jackson County and Independence governmental affairs; and,

 

WHEREAS, John's wife, Mitzi, served on the Independence City Council for many years, and John also sought public office; and,

 

WHEREAS, John and Mitzi had two children, John and Jim, who shared his commitment to public service; and,

 

WHEREAS, he enjoys traveling and takes the opportunity to see the world as often as he can; and,

 

WHEREAS, 50-Plus Pharmacy owner Kathy Browne said "Our practice is truly enriched by John's participation...although we love to see John's opportunities to travel and pursue the other interest of his life, including family and many friends, we always want him to come 'home;'" now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates John M. Overman upon receiving a Gold Certificate for 50 years of service to the public as a licensed pharmacist.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
