Body
WHEREAS, Fred A. Curls will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 31, 2009; and,
WHEREAS, Fred was born in Kansas City, KS, on March 31, 1919, a descendant of Cherokee freedmen; and,
WHEREAS, Fred graduated from Lincoln High School in Kansas City, MO, where he became a part of the historic graduating class of 1937, which was the first class to graduate from the new high school known as the "Castle on the Hill" at 22nd and Woodland; and,
WHEREAS, Fred launched his real estate career in 1952 when asked to join the offices of Al Zollar, and ventured out on his own in 1954, opening his own company, Curls & Associates; and,
WHEREAS, in 1959, Fred co-founded Freedom, Incorporated, one of the oldest political organizations in the nation, with Leon Jordan, Bruce Watkins, Dr. Charles Moore, and Howard Maupin; and,
WHEREAS, Fred is still dedicated to several professional and social organizations, including Greater K.C. Association of Real Estate Brokers (Realtists), St. Monica's Parish Catholic Church, Knights of St. Peter Claver, and the Pioneers Club; and,
WHEREAS, Fred has seven children, Janice, Darwin, Karen and Darrell, and Millicent, Michael and Phillip, who preceded him in death, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all of whom join in celebrating his 90th birthday; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Fred A. Curls on his 90th birthday celebration and extends best wishes to him on his future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
