A RESOLUTION recognizing Stefan C. Hughes for his service to Jackson County, Missouri, as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and wishing him well on his future endeavors as an Assistant United States Attorney.

Body

WHEREAS, Stefan C. Hughes is resigning after eighteen years of exceptional service to the citizens and community of Jackson County; and,

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the County, Stefan has held the position of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney  in the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, working in several units within the office as a senior level attorney with experience in over seventy jury trials; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stefan consults and assists other offices, committees, and the state in this rewarding and often complex field of law, and has worked as a Special Assistant since 2003 with the United States Attorney's Office's  Project Safe Neighborhood Program, at which he was responsible for the prosecution of individuals charged as felons in possession of a firearm; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stefan also serves our community, whether as an instructor at the Kansas City, Missouri Police Academy and a guest lecturer at the Washburn University Law School, or by serving on numerous local and national boards, including his present position on the United Negro College Fund Advisory Council; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stefan received the 1998 Centurion of the Year and the 1998 Centurion Community Service Award from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurion Leadership Program; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stefan has followed the Hughes family tradition of fighting for the improvement of our community, in the footsteps of his parents, the Honorable Leonard Hughes, Jr., former Kansas City Municipal Court Judge, and Mamie Hughes, former Jackson County Legislator; and,

 

WHEREAS, Stefan has been an integral part of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, bringing both accolades and honor to the office; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and commends Stefan C. Hughes upon his resignation from the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, thanks him for his service to this community, and wishes him the best in his recent appointment as an Assistant United States Attorney.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
