RESOLUTION #16136, January 29, 2007

Body

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit resident Joan Israelite is one of six new nominees submitted to the Senate by President George W. Bush to serve on an advisory board to the National Endowment of the Arts; and,

 

WHEREAS, the board advises the National Endowment of the Arts on grant applications, funding guidelines, partnerships with other agencies, budget and funding priorities, and policies related to legislation, and recommends people and organizations for the National Medal of Arts, a presidential award recognizing outstanding contributions to the arts in America; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Israelite joins an elite rank of nominees including jazz percussionist Chico Hamilton, the artistic director of the Shakespeare Festival/LA, Ben Donenberg, Columbus, OH arts patron Charlotte Power Kessler, Baton Rouge, LA author Robert Bretley Lott, and independent film producer Frank Price; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Israelite has been President and CEO of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City since its creation in 1999; and,

WHEREAS, Mrs. Israelite has an extensive background with the arts in the Kansas City metro area including service as the development director for the Kansas City Symphony and Lyric Opera; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Israelite has shared her knowledge and expertise with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City, Heart of America Family Services, and the Women's Leadership Institute at Avila College; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Israelite's volunteer involvement includes serving as a board member of the Greater Kansas City Convention and Visitor's Association, the Missouri Arts Council, Missouri Cultural Trust, president of the National Society of Fundraising Executives, the first woman president of the downtown Sertoma Club, and a Peace Corps volunteer; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Joan Israelite for her national recognition as a leader in the arts community and extends sincere appreciation for her commitment to the promotion and success of metro area arts programs.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
