A RESOLUTION commending Alyse Stoll upon being named Missouri's Woman of Distinction by the American Association of University Women of Missouri.

RESOLUTION # 14414, December 9, 2002

Body

WHEREAS, Alyse Stoll, a life-long Raytown resident and volunteer, was recently named Missouri's Woman of Distinction by the 1,500 members of the American Association of University Women of Missouri (AAUW); and,

 

WHEREAS, this was the third time Alyse has been nominated from the Raytown Branch, but her first state award; and,

 

WHEREAS, the award was given to Alyse based on her education, honors, service to AAUW, service to her profession, service to her community and society, and service to other women; and,

 

WHEREAS, her additional honors and accomplishments include: Ottawa University Graduate (BA in Music); Missouri Municipal League honoree for leadership on behalf of City and State (1999); Truman Heartland Foundation's Outstanding Raytown Citizen Award (2001); and, most recently, 2002 Honoree as Outstanding Seven-Year Youth Friend Volunteer; and,

WHEREAS, she is the founding member of the Raytown Arts Council, serving as its president for the past five years, as it brought an innovative series of creative arts to the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, additionally, Alyse serves on the Missouri Retired Teacher Association  State Executive Committee, is past president of the MARTA local unit, past president of the Missouri AAUW, served on the national AAUW level as Association Leader on loan for other states' conventions and regional conferences, and is the local Raytown branch past president; and,

 

WHEREAS, she is a member of the Coalition of Cultural Arts of Eastern Jackson County and currently serves as choir director and organist for the Westwood Christian Church; and,

WHEREAS, when asked how she became involved in all of this volunteer business, she said, " It's a way of life, I don't even give it a second thought.  My folks always did that and when you're a part of a community it's the thing to do.  Everyday is a learning experience and if you can share some of that with people, it's very important;" and,

 

WHEREAS, Eleanor Brown, who submitted the nomination of Alyse, said she thinks Alyse's winning hinged a lot on her qualities, saying:  "She's a leader, very creative, works well with people, puts in a lot of hours, and is always upbeat, which inspires others.  Alyse is always interested in promoting the causes of women and  girls;" and,

 

WHEREAS, "It gives me such satisfaction to see other people get so much pleasure from the simple things we can all do for each other," Alyse said in a Raytown Post interview; and,

 

WHEREAS, Alyse and her husband, Victor, have made their home in Raytown for more that 51 years, and have two sons, Randy, who serves as Director of Purchasing and Director of Business Services of the University of Missouri, Rolla, and Ed, a Kansas City attorney with the law firm of Stinson, Morrison, and Hecker; and,

 

WHEREAS, Alyse takes pride in her involvement with C-2's kindergarten youngsters as a story-teller with song and musical instruments, commenting that "everyday is a learning experience and we should remember that every action of our lives touches some chord that will vibrate in eternity;" now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature commends Alyse Stoll upon being named Missouri's Woman of Distinction by the American Association of University Women of Missouri.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
