Body
WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature extend their deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and firefighting community upon the loss of Gerald "Mac" McGowan, who departed this life on Sunday, September 5, 2004, when the fire truck in which he was riding crashed on its way to a fire call; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. McGowan was 57 years old and a 32 year veteran of the fire department; and,
WHEREAS, Mac had an impeccable reputation for skill and safety within the firefighting community, was a model and mentor to many, and was known as a "firefighter's firefighter"; and,
WHEREAS, Mac was a devoted husband and father that considered his duty to care for his family a top priority and generously gave his time and effort to ensure their comfort; and,
WHEREAS, Mac will be sorely missed by his wife, Margaret McGowan, two sons, Kevin and Michael McGowan, a granddaughter, and numerous other family, friends and colleagues; now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest sympathy to family, friends, and firefighting community upon the occasion of the tragic and untimely death of Gerald "Mac" McGowan and extends sincere appreciation for the 32 years of service given to our community in a difficult and dangerous job.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
