A RESOLUTION congratulating Noel Ottman on her recent designation as a National Merit Scholarship finalist.

RESOLUTION # 15899,   May 22, 2006

Body

WHEREAS, Noel Ottman, daughter of Mary Ottman, is a senior at Lee's Summit North High School and has earned the designation of finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program and has recently been named the Missouri female recipient of the Presidential Academic Scholar Award; and,

 

WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, conducts an annual National Merit Scholarship competition by administering the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which produces a nationwide pool of semi-finalists representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state; and,

 

WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarship finalists will be eligible for National Merit Scholarship awards; and,

 

 WHEREAS, through her pursuit of academic excellence, Noel has earned the designation of National Merit Scholarship finalist; and,

 

WHEREAS, Noel is an active student at Lee's Summit North High School where she is a member of Crimson Camerata, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, International Thespian Society, National Honor Society, and Amnesty International; and,

 

WHEREAS, she has earned numerous awards and honors including the Presidential Academic Scholar award, of which she was one of only 120 recipients nationwide, Fox 4 TV Reaching 4 Excellence award, outstanding language arts student, Duke University Talent Identification Program participant, Missouri Decathlon - top 100 high school seniors, and Missouri Scholars Academy; and,

 

WHEREAS, Noel is also an active community member who has served as an English-as- a-second-language tutor for migrant workers' children, participated in holiday caroling at local nursing homes, and was instrumental in facilitating a cultural fair to promote tolerance in elementary school children; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Noel Ottman as a National Merit Scholarship finalist and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in her endeavors now and in the future.

 

 

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
