Body
WHEREAS, Hannah Jones, daughter of Randy and Rosemary Jones, is a 2007 graduate
of Lee's Summit North High School and has earned the designation as a National Merit Scholarship finalist and a semifinalist for the United States Presidential Scholars Program; and,
WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation program recognizes academic excellence through the administration of the SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and will award nearly $33 million dollars in scholarships to approximately 8,000 finalists throughout the United States; and,
WHEREAS, the United States Presidential Scholars program selectees are chosen on the basis of their academic accomplishments, artistic success, and leadership and involvement in school and the community; and,
WHEREAS, Hannah earned the highest possible score of 36 on the ACT college entrance exam which includes testing in English, math, reading, and science as well as recognition for being in the top one percent of her class, Missouri 100 Scholar, Top Overall Science Student, and Missouri Scholars Academy selectee; and,
WHEREAS, Hannah is a participant in Math Club, Science Knowledge Bowl, National Honor Society, and the International Baccalaureate Program; and,
WHEREAS, Hannah volunteers at Kansas City Retired Greyhounds As Pets and One Good Meal and enjoys studying piano; and,
WHEREAS, Hannah will attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Hannah Jones upon her designation as a National Merit Scholarship Corporation finalist and semifinalist for the United States Presidential Scholars Program and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in her future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
