WHEREAS, the National Institute for Construction Excellence (NICE) Annual Awards Luncheon will celebrate women in the construction field, and the historic construction of the first stadium built for a women’s professional sports team, coming to Berkley Riverfront Park in Downtown Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, the NICE luncheon includes a keynote panel of women construction experts, Courtney Kounkel of Monarch Build, Cassie Morrison of J.E. Dunn Construction, Christina Franklin of Generator Studio, Kathleen Morrow, Tradeswoman, and Allison Howard, President, of Kansas City Current; and,
WHEREAS, the keynote panel is moderated by Bridgette Williams, Executive Director of the Heavy Constructors Association of Greater Kansas City (HCAGKC), a respected force in the regions’ construction industry, and the first female and first African American to lead the 68-year-old HCAGKC, and among the first in the country to head a major contractor’s association; and,
WHEREAS, the Heavy Constructors Association and the Board of Directors are presenting sponsors for the Annual Awards Luncheon, Tuesday, October 17, 2023; and,
WHEREAS, the National Association of Women in Construction - Greater Kansas City Chapter (NAWIC-KC) was formed in 1965 with the theme, Building Kansas City, One Woman at a Time! to strengthen and amplify the success of women in the construction industry and to provide educational, leadership, and community service opportunities for its members; and,
WHEREAS, in 1998, the National Institute for Construction Excellence (NICE) was established as a not-for-profit organization to increase the awareness of construction career fields and skilled trades; and,
WHEREAS, NICE provides project-based and industry-supported tools for Kansas and Missouri teachers at the sixth-grade level and up, to educate students about what is required to become successful professionals in construction-related careers; and,
WHEREAS, the annual awards luncheon is an opportunity to celebrate the Kansas City Current stadium project and express appreciation to a cross-section of fields creating greater inclusion, equity, and diversity in construction and professional sports in the Kansas City downtown area; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes and celebrates the historic role of women in construction and in the development of the first women’s professional sports team venue for the Kansas City Current soccer team.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
