Body
WHEREAS, Cassie Stephenson, daughter of Chuck and Rise Stephenson, is a senior at Lee's Summit North High School and has earned the designation of semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program which will enable her to compete for National Merit Scholarship awards; and,
WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, conducts an annual National Merit Scholarship competition by administering the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which produces a nationwide pool of semi-finalists representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state; and,
WHEREAS, Cassie is in the top one percent of her class and is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to her exceptional academic status, Cassie is president of the Scholar team, vice president of the Math Club, Bronco Literary Society member, National Honor Society member, member of the International Thespians Society, former "A Team" captain of the Science Knowledge Bowl, past attendee at Missouri Scholars Academy, past attendee at Girls State, and is actively involved in Lee's Summit North High School's theater productions; and,
WHEREAS, Cassie plans to attend college with a major in veterinary medicine or foreign field service; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Cassie Stephenson as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in her endeavors now and in the future.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
