Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County ranks first in the State of Missouri in alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents and second in most other categories of vehicular accidents; and,
WHEREAS, to combat this situation, the Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant in the amount of $287,129.00 by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division, for the reimbursement of the cost of equipment for the formation of a full-time traffic unit; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the acceptance of this grant and the execution of an implementing Agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Division, in a form to be approved by the County Counselor; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the proper spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the unappropriated surplus of the 2006 Grant Fund be and hereby is made:
