INTRODUCED BY DaRon McGee, Megan L. Marshall, Jalen Anderson, Donna Peyton, Manuel Abarca IV, Venessa Huskey, Charlie Franklin, Jeanie Lauer, and Sean E. Smith, County Legislators

 

 

Body

 WHEREAS, the Folly Theater will present the world-renowned a cappella sextet Take 6 at its annual Folly Frolic special event; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Folly Frolic event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 8:00 P.M. at the historic Folly Theater at 300 W. 12th Street, Kansas City, Missouri; and,

 

WHEREAS, the special event honors both Kansas City’s long-standing impact on the birth and development of popular American music and the Folly Theater’s 123-year legacy as a Kansas City entertainment showplace; and,

 

WHEREAS, the special event is an opportunity for attendees to experience the melodies and rhythms of the quintessential American art forms of gospel, jazz, pop, and R&B performed by the preeminent a cappella group in the world; and,

 

WHEREAS, Take 6 is comprised of the six vocalists Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea, and Khristian Dentley; and,

 

WHEREAS, the members of Take 6 have been honing their craft as professional musicians for over 40 years, since their founding as “The Gentleman’s Estate Quartet” by Claude McKnight at Huntsville, Alabama’s Oakwood College in 1980; and,

 

WHEREAS, Take 6’s superior musical artistry has been recognized with 10 GRAMMY® Awards, 10 Dove Awards, a Soul Train Award, and membership in The Gospel Music Hall of Fame; and,

 

WHEREAS, Take 6 attributes their long-term success to faith, friendship, respect, and love of music, core values shared by many Jackson County residents; and,

 

WHEREAS, Take 6 has been heralded by American record producer, songwriter, and composer Quincy Jones as the “baddest vocal cats on the planet!”; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature wholeheartedly recognizes the creativity and musical genius of Take 6, acknowledging their significant contributions to the advancement of American music, and celebrates their appearance at the Folly Theater’s 9th annual Folly Frolic by declaring Saturday, November 18, 2023, “Take 6 Day”.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
