Body

WHEREAS, Leslie (Les) W. Williams, Jr., was recently selected as Labor's Representative of the Year by the Labor's Educational & Political Club Independent due to his prominent and extensive presence in the local labor community; and;

 

WHEREAS, Les was born in Kansas City, MO, on January 24, 1948, was educated in the Kansas City School District, graduated from Manuel High & Technical Vocational High School, and furthered his education at the Penn Valley Community College; and,

 

WHEREAS, Les married Judy, his wife of 39 years, in 1967, and they have been blessed with two children, Pamela Williams-King and Leslie (Les) Williams II, and five grandchildren, Marissa Williams, Alesha Mclean, Matthew Williams, Lestyn Williams, and Jaylyn Williams; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1968, Les began his affiliation with the labor community when he joined the Laborers' International Union of America; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1985, Les was elected vice president, executive board member, and field representative of Construction & General Laborers' Local Union No. 264; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1988 he was elected president, executive board member, and field representative of Construction & General Laborers' Local Union No. 264; and,

 

WHEREAS, in 1998 Les was elected president, business manager, and member of the executive board of Local 264, where he currently continues to hold these positions; and,

 

WHEREAS, Les serves as president of Western Missouri & Kansas Laborer's District Council, vice president of the Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO, chairman of the Greater Kansas City Laborers' Pension Fund, secretary of the Greater Kansas City laborers' health and welfare fund, chairman of the board of trustees of the Greater Kansas City Laborers training fund, secretary of the MO-KAN CISAP fund, and member of the executive committee board of the African American Caucus for the Midwest Region of the Laborers' International Union of America; and,

 

WHEREAS, in addition to his active involvement in the labor movement, Les serves on the executive committee of United Way, the executive committee board for the Missouri Democratic Party, and is vice chairman of Working Families Friend; and,

 

WHEREAS, respect and admiration go out to Leslie W. Williams, Jr., for his many years of providing quality leadership to the members of Construction & General Laborers' Local Union No. 264; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Leslie (Les) W. Williams, Jr., president, business manager, and member of the executive board of Construction & General Laborers' Local Union No. 264 upon his selection as Labor's Representative of the Year by the Labor's Educational & Political Club Independent.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
