Body
WHEREAS, the City of Lee's Summit was officially awarded the 2010 Missouri Arts Award for "Creative Community" on February 10, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, the Missouri Arts Award for "Creative Community" is bestowed by the Missouri Arts Council, a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, honoring individuals and organizations that have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lee's Summit was awarded the 2010 Missouri Arts Award for "Creative Community" based on programs such as the rotating arts exhibits at the Gamber Center; displays of artwork created by local artists and students in City Hall; the City's first public art sculpture; and the work of the Lee's Summit Arts Council in enhancing cultural art within the City; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit effort to cultivate an active arts environment was supported by Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation; the Lee's Summit Arts Council; Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street; the Lee's Summit Economic Development Council; the Lee's Summit R-7 School District; the New Longview Foundation; the Metropolitan Community College - Longview Cultural Arts Center; Summit Art; the Lee's Summit Symphony; the Lee's Summit Historical Society; the Lee's Summit Historic Preservation Commission; as well as private arts organizations and businesses; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit's Cultural Arts Plan is supported by the City's strategic plan, Lee's Summit 360°: Charting Tomorrow; and,
WHEREAS, Lee's Summit is one of the first communities in the Kansas City area to develop a successful comprehensive Cultural Arts Plan to identify the needs and opportunities for arts and culture in the Lee's Summit community; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the City of Lee's Summit as the recipient of the 2010 Missouri Award for "Creative Community" and extends sincere best wishes for continued growth and development of a strong arts community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
