Body
WHEREAS, the citizens of Jackson County value hard work, support the rights of individuals to provide for themselves and their families, and recognize that some members of our community require additional services, help, and training to reach this goal; and,
WHEREAS, among the most in need of job-training services are those whose opportunities are limited because of mental, emotional, or physical disabilities, illiteracy, a criminal past or a total lack of education, training, or work experience; and,
WHEREAS, we believe work is a powerful tool for triggering positive social change and that every time one more person is given an opportunity to have a meaningful job, the entire community benefits; and,
WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries is North America's leading nonprofit provider of job-training services to people with special needs and is the world's largest private-sector employer of people with disabilities; and,
WHEREAS, local residents with disabilities and other special needs have received a wide variety of job-training and job placement services through The Helping Hand of Goodwill Industries; and,
WHEREAS, the investment made by our community in Goodwill Industries has resulted in more people living independently and contributing to our County which, in turn, has resulted in a better quality of community life; and,
WHEREAS, The Helping Hand of Goodwill Industries is celebrating Goodwill Industries Week, May 4 through May 10, 1997; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby proclaims May 4 through May 10, 1997, as Goodwill Industries Week in Jackson County and calls upon the County's citizens to join it in recognizing this special observance.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
