A RESOLUTION congratulating Kevin Zhang on earning the highest score among Missouri freshmen and sophomores at the 2005 American Mathematics Competition.

Body
WHEREAS, Kevin Zhang is the son of Dr. Jean Tao and Feng Zhang and brother of Katie; and,
WHEREAS, Kevin was a freshman at Lee's Summit West High School and is currently ranked 1st in his high school class with a 4.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale; and,
WHEREAS, Kevin was one of a four member team representing the state of Missouri while competing at the National Mathcounts in both 2003 and 2004, and achieved second place in 2003; and,
WHEREAS, Kevin captured the top state score in the American Mathematics Competition 10A in the Spring of 2005, and advanced to the last round to take the USA Math Olympiad contest as one of the top 250 high school students in the United States and Canada; and,
WHEREAS, Kevin also enjoys playing the violin for the Lee's Summit West High School Symphony Orchestra, he played in the pit at the school's musical, is active in the Scholar Bowl, Chess Club, International Club, and outside of school Kevin participates in the Kansas City Youth Symphony and the Kansas City Ambassadors of Music; and,
WHEREAS, in the 2004-2005 school year, Kevin was a member of the Missouri All-State Honor Orchestra and the Kansas City area All-District Orchestra and received the top music award: summa cum laude with distinction in his freshman year; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Kevin Zhang on his outstanding accomplishments and on his earning the highest score at the 2005 American Mathematics Competition and wishes him well in all his future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
