Body
WHEREAS, the People to People Student Ambassador Program was founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, under the premise that reaching out to citizens of other countries would contribute significantly to world peace; and,
WHEREAS, student ambassadors, a select group of qualified students who are chosen for this program, must be of a high caliber with above average grades, and enthusiastic and eager to learn about the culture and daily lives of other people; and,
WHEREAS, students must also demonstrate leadership experience, maturity, a willingness to learn, and a desire to focus on the future; and,
WHEREAS, Jamaal Washington, a 10th grader at Blue Springs South High School and a student with many outstanding qualities, has been selected to participate in the 1998 People to People Student Ambassador Program; and,
WHEREAS, Jamaal was also chosen for and participated in this same program in 1995 and 1996; and,
WHEREAS, Jamaal has earned a 4.0 grade-point average throughout his high school career and has been honored with awards for academic excellence; and,
WHEREAS, some of Jamaal's distinguished honors include awards from the Greater Kansas City Science and Engineering Fair, The Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Missouri Bandmasters Association, and Central Missouri State University Jazz Festival; and,
WHEREAS, Jamaal is active in many sports including basketball, football, swimming, track, and karate, and has won numerous trophies for his accomplishments; and,
WHEREAS, Jamaal is the son of Billy and Lisa Washington; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Jamaal Washington upon being selected to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador Program and for striving for excellence in his school career...Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
