Body

 WHEREAS, Charlie Shields, President and Chief Executive Officer of University Health, was named the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce 2023 Citizen of the Year, at the Chamber’s 136th Annual Dinner, held November 21, 2023, at the Kansas City Convention Center; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Shields has demonstrated dedication to the advancement and well-being of the Greater Kansas City region through his leadership in various sectors including public education, healthcare, and civic engagement; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Shields has served as President and CEO of University Health since 2014, and has exemplified unwavering commitment to serving the community by ensuring access to quality healthcare for all individuals regardless of their insurance status, while also spearheading initiatives to nurture the next generation of medical professionals; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Shields' distinguished career spanning over 25 years in healthcare leadership, coupled with his extensive experience in public service, notably as President Pro-Tem of the Missouri Senate, reflects his exceptional blend of strategic acumen, interpersonal skills, and political insight; and,

WHEREAS, Mr. Shields’ profound advocacy for education as a fundamental determinant of both economic and health status underscores his deep-rooted belief in the transformative power of knowledge and the importance of fostering educational opportunities for all individuals; and,

 

WHEREAS, as a founding board member of the UMKC Health Sciences District, and active involvement in various community organizations including the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, and America’s Essential Hospitals, Mr. Shields epitomizes a steadfast commitment to driving innovation, collaboration, and progress within the Kansas City community; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby extends its deepest appreciation and heartfelt congratulations to Charlie Shields for being named the 2023 Citizen of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature recognizes his selfless dedication, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of our community.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
