Intro

RESOLUTION #16803, January 20, 2009

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator

Body

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District has received, for the eighth consecutive year, the Distinction in Performance award, the highest honor accorded to Missouri school districts by the State of Missouri, for the district's demonstration of academic achievement and progress during the 2007-2008 school year; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District was one of only thirteen metropolitan-area school districts to earn this coveted award, and is one of just a handful of Missouri public school districts who have earned this award with a perfect score for all eight years the award has been offered; and,

WHEREAS, the Distinction in Performance award is based on the same performance criteria included in the state's accreditation review process and provides annual confirmation and recognition of a district's consistent performance; and,

WHEREAS, these criteria include Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test scores, ACT college entrance test scores, student attendance, dropout rates, and other academic performance measures; and,

WHEREAS, to qualify for a Distinction in Performance award, a school district must meet thirteen of fourteen performance indicators during the previous school year; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District exceeded this goal by not only meeting all fourteen performance indicators, but also by scoring a perfect 100 points on the annual performance report for the eighth year in a row; and,

WHEREAS, according to district superintendent Dr. David McGehee, the award is a reflection of the value the community places on its quality school system, and all who contribute to the schools' and the students' success, including the outstanding staff, involved families and supportive community should be recognized; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Lee's Summit R-7 School District upon its receipt of Missouri's coveted Distinction in Performance award for the 2007-2008 school year and for helping to pave the way for a bright future for all students and members of the Lee's Summit community.
