Body

 WHEREAS, Missie B's opened its doors in April 1994 as a piano/karaoke bar with special entertainment and drag shows, providing a unique and inclusive space for the community; and,

WHEREAS, Missie B’s has been a staple in our community for three decades, providing a welcoming space for all individuals to come together and celebrate diversity, acceptance and love; and,

 

WHEREAS, Missie B’s has shown unwavering support and inclusivity for the LGBTQIA+ community, serving as a beacon of hope and solidarity; and,

 

WHEREAS, over the past 30 years, Missie B's has grown from a small neighborhood bar into the most popular nightclub in Kansas City, thanks to the unwavering support of the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Missie B's operates 365 days a year, from noon until 3:00 a.m., serving clientele 21 years of age and over, offering the most affordable drinks in town from noon until 8:00 p.m. daily, and nightly drink specials from Sunday through Thursday; and,

 

 

WHEREAS, Missie B's is renowned for its friendly staff and exceptional service, ensuring that every visitor has a memorable and enjoyable experience; and,

 

WHEREAS, Missie B's has continually given back to the community through various charitable initiatives, including a significant fundraiser for the victims of the Pulse tragedy which raised over $53,000.00, and numerous benefits for local gay organizations and causes; and,

 

WHEREAS, Missie B's holds annual potluck dinners on Thanksgiving and Christmas for those without a place to go, and supports local causes by raising funds through events such as the bartender review to buy Christmas gifts for children and support senior citizens and veterans; and,

 

WHEREAS, Michael Burnes, the management, and the staff of Missie B’s have demonstrated unwavering commitment to community support and engagement, fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity within Kansas City; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature hereby extends its congratulations to Missie B's on its 30th Anniversary and recognizes its significant contributions to the community, its outstanding service, and its role in promoting inclusivity and good times in Kansas City; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature extends its deepest gratitude to Missie B’s, its staff, patrons, and supporters, for thirty years of unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of acceptance, empowerment, and celebration for the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond.
