Body
WHEREAS, Sophie Beckerle, a seventh grade student at Summit Lakes Middle School in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, was recently recognized by the Duke University Talent Search; and,
WHEREAS, the Duke University Talent Search program identifies students in sixteen states located in the Southeast, Midwest, and Southwest regions of the United States, who have scored in the 95th percentile on a grade-level achievement test; and,
WHEREAS, as part of the program, these academically-talented students take above-level college entrance exams to learn more about their abilities; and,
WHEREAS, Duke University will host a recognition ceremony to honor the seventh-grade students who score highest on these exams; and,
WHEREAS, additionally, Duke Talent Search participants receive educational materials and resources through 10th grade to help them develop to their full academic potential; and,
WHEREAS, students may also qualify to participate in Duke's summer studies or e-studies programs; and,
WHEREAS, Sophie's parents, Alissa Beckerle and Michael Sanchez, are justifiably proud of their daughter; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Sophie Beckerle upon receipt of recognition by the Duke University Talent Search program, and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
