Body
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Ballet will begin renovations of the Union Station Power House, transforming it into the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity, with a groundbreaking ceremony to be held on November 13, 2009; and,
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Ballet was founded in 1957 by Tatiana Dokoudovska as the Kansas City Civic Ballet, an outgrowth of the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri - Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, Todd Bolender was hired in 1981 as Artistic Director, and was a protege of the great George Balanchine and was an internationally acclaimed dancer, teacher, and choreographer; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Bolender used his extensive professional experience and vision to bring Kansas City Ballet to a new level of quality and national recognition; and,
WHEREAS, the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity will be one of the finest facilities for dance in the United States, will deepen Kansas City Ballet's commitment to the city by expanding its programming and reaching out to collaboration with other groups, and will serve to propel Kansas City to the forefront as a destination for dance; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates the Kansas City Ballet on the groundbreaking of the Todd Bolender Center for Dance and Creativity.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
