Body
WHEREAS, The Wall That Heals, an exhibition featuring a 250-foot replica of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., will soon travel to Blue Springs, Missouri; and,
 
WHEREAS, this traveling exhibit will allow veterans, families, friends, and students in our community to honor the more than 58,000 men and women whose names are inscribed on the Wall; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Vietnam Memorial has inspired and healed many people and the traveling exhibit allows Vietnam War veterans, parents, and children to actively learn about this significant event in America's history; and,
 
WHEREAS, the Blue Spring's exhibition is hosted by the Blue Springs Public Art Commission, the City of Blue Springs, the Blue Springs School District, area businesses, veterans' organizations, and lead partners, which include ATK Small Caliber Systems, Hy-Vee, KFKF Radio Station, and Ad Trends; and
 
WHEREAS, ATK Small Caliber Systems, the operator of the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, supported the soldiers in the Vietnam conflict with more than 14 billion rounds of ammunition and continues to support today's modern day warfighter and are "proud to give Vietnam Veterans the welcome home they deserve," said Mark Hissong, of ATK Small Caliber Systems; and,
 
WHEREAS, The Wall That Heals exhibition, including an information center and other educational exhibits, will be on display 24 hours each day at Pink Hill Park, 2715 NW Park Drive in Blue Springs, from Thursday, September 30 through Sunday, October 3, 2010, and is free and open to the public; and
 
WHEREAS, to show appreciation for and to honor Vietnam Veterans who served our nation, the period from September 27 through October 3 is designated "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Week" and the citizens and businesses of Jackson County are asked to fly the American flag during this time; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes and supports The Wall That Heals and extends best wishes to the City of Blue Springs for a successful event.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
