INTRODUCED BY Victor E. Callahan and Dennis Waits, County Legislators 
 
Body 
WHEREAS, COMBAT is leading a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, community-based approach to fighting illicit drugs throughout Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, some 39 prevention and 24 treatment agencies throughout the County receive financial support from COMBAT and form a significant component of the effective network of law enforcement, treatment, prevention, community policing, neighborhood prosecution, drug court, and family court; and,
WHEREAS, COMBAT has taken legal action in over 2,894 drug houses; more than 700 children, and adults get treatment for substance abuse each month; 315 clients  have graduated from Drug Court; and over 100 meth labs have been closed; and,
WHEREAS, Kansas City has fallen out of the top ten most violent cities for the first time since 1989; and,
WHEREAS, 31 special events will be held throughout the County to inform the citizens of substance abuse services offered through COMBAT and the availability and progress of COMBAT programs; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the importance of awareness and education in fighting illicit drugs and hereby proclaims August  of 1997 as COMBAT Drug Awareness Month in Jackson County.

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
