A RESOLUTION congratulating Austin Marlin upon his remarkable accomplishment of earning a complete set of merit badges from the Boy Scouts of America, an extremely rare feat.

Body
WHEREAS, Austin Marlin, a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 220, has successfully earned a complete set of 121 merit badges; and,
WHEREAS, Austin, a Lee's Summit North High School junior, is the seventeen-year-old son of proud parents, Jerry and Barbara Marlin of Lee's Summit, and brother to Kim; and,
WHEREAS, Austin set a goal of earning all merit badges when he joined the Scouts at an early age; and,
WHEREAS, Austin's perseverance and dedication enabled him to overcome obstacles in developing new skill sets to accomplish the goals that he was pursuing; and,
WHEREAS, Austin received his Eagle badge in December 2003 after achieving the minimum requirement of 21 badges and then went on to earn an additional 100 badges in the following two-year period to accomplish his goal of earning all of the merit badges offered by the Boy Scout program; and,
WHEREAS, by earning additional merit badges, he has been awarded three Bronze, three Gold and two Silver palms; and,
WHEREAS, Austin has demonstrated his leadership skills as a patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, troop scribe, troop quartermaster, and currently serves as a troop instructor helping new scouts learn the basic skills necessary to succeed in this arena; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to his active membership in scouting, Austin is an active member of the Colbern Road Baptist Church youth group; and,
WHEREAS, Austin's future goals are to attend West Point or the University of Missouri-Rolla; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Austin Marlin upon successfully earning an impressive 121 merit badges from the Boy Scouts of America and acknowledges his role as a leader in the scouting community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
