IN THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE OF JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI Title A RESOLUTION urging the voters of the City of Kansas City, Missouri to reject the November 4, 1997 ballot question which would implement an alternate Union Station restoration plan. Intro RESOLUTION #11908, October 13, 1997 INTRODUCED BY John Patrick Burnett, County Legislator Body WHEREAS, Kansas City's Union Station is an asset of the entire metropolitan community; and, WHEREAS, on November 6, 1996, the voters of Clay, Jackson, and Platte Counties in Missouri and Johnson County in Kansas approved a one-eighth (1/8th) cent retail sales tax for the restoration of Union Station and the creation of Science City; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to this historic bi-state vote, the Kansas and Missouri Metropolitan Culture District Commission (the "Bi-State Commission") was created to participate in this restoration project; and, WHEREAS, the voters of Kansas City, Missouri alone will be presented with an initiative petition question on November 4, 1997, that seeks to implement an extension of the City's capital improvement sales tax for an alternate Union Station restoration plan; and, WHEREAS, the Jackson County member of the Bi-State Commission, John Patrick Burnett, has urged that Jackson County continue to support the on going restoration of Union Station and reject this alternative plan which would be wasteful and eccentric; and, WHEREAS, the Bi-State Commission at its meeting on October 10, 1997, passed a resolution urging rejection of this alternative plan and tax; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature urges the voters of Kansas City, Missouri, to reject this unnecessary and duplicative tax for Union Station and reaffirm their partnership in the ongoing restoration of Union Station and the creation of Science City.
