WHEREAS, mental health is a vital aspect of overall well-being, influencing relationships, workplace productivity, and overall quality of life; and,
WHEREAS, millions of individuals globally face mental health challenges every year, affecting a significant portion of the population; and,
WHEREAS, raising awareness about mental health fosters understanding, compassion, and support for those affected, breaking stigmas associated with mental illness and creating a more empathetic and inclusive community; and,
WHEREAS, the promotion of mental health initiatives, community support, and preventative care contributes to an environment that prioritizes and nurtures mental well-being; and,
WHEREAS, May has been designated as Mental Health Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to increase public awareness of mental health, highlight available resources, and emphasize the importance of early intervention and treatment; and,
WHEREAS, mental health organizations, healthcare providers, community leaders, and advocacy groups work tirelessly year-round to educate the public, reduce stigma, and deliver essential support and services to individuals and families impacted by mental health conditions; and,
WHEREAS, University Health’s Behavioral Health is the area's sole Certified Community Behavioral Health Organization (CCBHO) connected to a hospital, making it uniquely equipped to integrate physical and behavioral health within one system, while offering hope, acceptance, and compassion; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature encourages all citizens to acknowledge the significance of mental health, cultivate empathy and understanding, and advocate for accessible, high-quality mental healthcare for all; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature designates May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Jackson County and requests the downtown Jackson County Courthouse to be illuminated in green from May 1 through May 8, 2024, as a symbol of our ongoing commitment to mental health awareness.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
