A RESOLUTION affirming environmentally responsible choices and actions of the Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee, endorsing the Environmental Excellence Campaign and declaring Monday June 3, through Friday June 7, 1996, as Jackson County Offices Waste Reduction and Recycling Week.

Body
WHEREAS, the Legislature has previously endorsed the Environmental Excellence Campaign and desires to affirm its participation in 1996; and,
WHEREAS, Jackson County desires to lead its residents by example and has therefore conducted a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling assessment of the waste generated in County facilities in the day to day operation of the County's services on behalf of its residents; and,
WHEREAS, the County Executive appointed and led the Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee comprised of key leaders of the County staff, and the County Committee has designed a Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Program which will be implemented in eight County facilities during the week of June 3 through June 7, 1996; and,
WHEREAS, the Legislature commends the Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee and desires to designate the week of June 3 through June 7, 1996, as Jackson County Offices Waste Reduction and Recycling Week in Jackson County offices; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature affirms and commends the environmentally responsible actions and choices of the Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee in the implementation of a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling plan in County offices and facilities beginning June 3, 1996, in eight County facilities and to be expanded into all County facilities and services during 1996 and 1997; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County reaffirms its commitment to the Environmental Excellence Campaign to recycle, to buy recycled products whenever reasonable possible, and to educate its employees and citizens on waste education and recycling strategies; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the week of June 3, 1996 through June 7, 1996, is hereby declared as Jackson County Offices Waste Reduction and Recycling Week and all County employees are urged and encouraged to actively participate; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Jackson County Waste Reduction and Recycling Committee is commended and acknowledged for its significant commitment and dedication to this project including the training of over 600 County employees in the Kansas City Courthouse on June 3, 1996.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
