A RESOLUTION commending the Lee's Summit R-7 School District on the recognition of seven of its schools on the 2003 Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's annual "Top 10" list of schools with students consistently achieving high scores in one or more areas of the Missouri Assessment Program exams.
Intro
RESOLUTION # 14550, April 7, 2003
INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator
Body
WHEREAS, Cedar Creek Elementary, Mason Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Bernard Campbell and Summit Lakes Middle Schools, and the Lee's Summit North High School have been included in the 2003 Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Educations's annual "Top 10" list of schools with students consistently achieving high scores in one or more areas of the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) exams; and,
WHEREAS, the annual list of highest-performing schools identifies elementary, middle and high schools with the highest percentage of students scoring in the "proficient" and "advanced" levels in each subject and grade level covered by the mandatory MAP test; and,
WHEREAS, Missouri's MAP standardized exams are administered yearly in four subject areas to students in various grade levels: fourth, eighth and tenth grades test in mathematics, third, seventh, and tenth grades test in science, third, seventh and eleventh grades test in language arts, and fourth, eighth, and eleventh grades test in social studies; and,
WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit R-7 School District joins an elite group of school districts, in that, out of all the state's more than 500 school districts, just six school districts had more than 10 appearances on the state's "Top 10 list," with Lee's Summit R-7 being the only school district in the Kansas City metropolitan area to appear more than 10 times on the list; and,
WHEREAS, Pete Muenks, Director of Assessments for the district, credits the district's honors to good teacher communication between grade levels, saying "Teachers communicate between the grade levels what needs to be added to the curriculum for students to succeed. That adds to the consistency and quality of what we do in this District;" and,
WHEREAS, Missouri Commissioner of Education D. Kent King said, "Missouri schools aspire to be on this list. Being among the state's 10 top-performing schools in a particular subject and grade level is something about which students, teachers and parents can be proud;" now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends Cedar Creek Elementary, Mason Elementary, Hazel Grove Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Bernard Campbell Middle, Summit Lakes Middle, and Lee's Summit North High School upon making the 2003 Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's annual "Top 10" list of schools with students consistently achieving high scores in one or more areas of the Missouri Assessment Program exams.
