A RESOLUTION celebrating the 90th birthday of Charles Porter Sr.

RESOLUTION NO. 22034, September 11, 2025

Body

 WHEREAS, Charles L. Porter Sr. was born on September 17, 1935, in the state of Oklahoma, and has lived a life marked by unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Porter has been married to Kay F. Porter for 69 years, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to love, partnership, and family values; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is the proud father of three children — Kathy Shepard, Angela Fowler, and Charles Porter Jr. — and the beloved grandfather of five grandchildren and great-grandfather to seven, whose lives reflect his enduring legacy of love, guidance, and strength; and,

 

WHEREAS, he has been a devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 80 years, serving faithfully as the Head of Trustees and overseeing Building and Grounds, where he led with integrity, stewardship, and a servant’s heart, always contributing wherever needed with humility and grace; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Porter dedicated over 30 years of service to the Boys and Girls Club, positively impacting generations of youth through mentorship, leadership, and compassion; and,

 

WHEREAS, he retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of honorable service, demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Porter graduated from RT Coles High School in the class of 1954, and has remained a proud advocate for education and youth development throughout his life; and,

 

WHEREAS, his passion for empowering young people led him to help establish Mountaintop Sports and Recreation, a transformative initiative for inner-city youth, and to launch a vital community pantry to serve those in need; and,

 

WHEREAS, in his retirement, Mr. Porter continues to enrich the lives of others through his active participation at Palestine’s Community Center for Seniors, where he shares his joy, wisdom, and love for people; and,

 

WHEREAS, he is known for his love of dominoes, good food, the outdoors, warm weather, and all sports, and is cherished for his vibrant spirit, sociability, and deep connection to his community; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Legislature and Jackson County honor and celebrate the extraordinary life and legacy of Mr. Charles L. Porter Sr., recognizing his decades of service, leadership, and love for others, and expressing our deepest gratitude for the indelible mark he has left on the hearts of many; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, honors Mr. Charles Porter and celebrates his 90 years of life.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
