Body
WHEREAS, driving while intoxicated remains one of the top causes of fatal automobile accidents in Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, in 2006, 273 people died in more than 7,900 alcohol-related traffic accidents, resulting in death or injury every 1.6 hours; and,
WHEREAS, to combat this situation, the Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant in the amount of $2,800.00 by the Missouri Safety Center in furtherance of the Center's You Drink and Drive, You Lose Enforcement program for the period August 15, 2008, through September 1, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, the Sheriff recommends the use of funds for reimbursement of overtime used for the You Drink and Drive, You Lose Enforcement program pursuant to a contract with the Missouri Safety Center, a copy of which is attached hereto; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place the grant funds in the proper spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the fund balance of the 2008 Grant Fund be and hereby is made:
