RESOLUTION 13684, April 30, 2001

 

INTRODUCED BY Bob Spence, County Legislator

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit North High School senior Sharon Clay has been selected as one of 25 winners in a national computer art scholarship contest sponsored by Imation, a Minnesota company that specializes in computer generated art and technology; and,

 

WHEREAS, the winners in the Imation contest are judged by museum professionals, art and animation experts from well-known companies such as Disney, and college instructors; and,

 

WHEREAS, Sharon will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the company for her entry of an old man in a café being served by a waitress; and,

 

WHEREAS, she plans to use the scholarship to seek a bachelor's degree in graphic arts and hopes to one day have a career "designing covers for CD's;" and,

 

WHEREAS, Sharon and her mother will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Minneapolis, including a tour of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design; and,

 

WHEREAS, with a 4.07 GPA, Sharon ranks 31 out of 426 students in her class; and,

 

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit North art teacher Nancy Nokes has said of Sharon "I am extremely impressed on a daily basis by her artistic abilities, her maturity and her independent nature;" and,

 

WHEREAS, already this year, Sharon won an award for a poster design for a website and  one of the top prizes in a logo design contest for the Missouri Human Relations Department; and,

 

WHEREAS,  Jim Brock, an advertising technology teacher at the Joe Herndon Career Center is expecting great things from Sharon, saying, "She's a natural-born artist.  You're going to see her somewhere;" now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Sharon Clay upon being selected as one of 25 winners in a national computer art scholarship contest and wishes her much success in her future academic and artistic endeavors.

 

Enacted and Approved

Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
