Body
WHEREAS, Peter Daniel Nugent, respected teacher and devoted family man, departed this life on March 1, 2007; and,
WHEREAS, Pete was born March 29, 1938, in Kansas City, MO, attended St. Peter's Cathedral grade school and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, KS, in 1956; and,
WHEREAS, Pete earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from the University of Colorado - Boulder in 1969 and a PhD in Labor and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976; and,
WHEREAS, in the early years of his teaching career, he taught at Stockton State College in Pomona, NJ, and Cleveland state University in Cleveland, OH; and,
WHEREAS, his 25 years of service at Rockhurst University afforded him the luxury of establishing lasting relationships with his students and colleagues who praise his abilities as a master teacher, friend, and mentor; and,
WHEREAS, Pete was a dedicated volunteer for the Clay County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program and was a positive role model and influence to the children he served; and,
WHEREAS, Peter Daniel Nugent is survived by his mother, Louise Nugent, his wife of 37 years, Ashley, his son Matthew Nugent and wife, Rachel, his daughter Megan Galicia and husband, Estaban, many friends and former students, neighbors in the Brookside and Westside communities, and a host of other relatives and friends; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Peter Daniel Nugent, a devoted family man and teacher, for his immeasurable contributions to our community and extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues upon the occasion of his untimely death.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
